  • 200grams hot-smoked mackerel fillets, skinned
  • 200grams half-fat crème fraîche
  • 2teaspoons horseradish sauce
  • 2tablespoons dill, roughly chopped
  • 1 lime, zest, finely grated, plus juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 slices wholemeal toast (to serve)

Description

This easy, quick pâté is a tasty and inexpensive way to get healthy, oily fish into the family diet.

Method

Step 1 of 3

Break the mackerel into pieces and place in a food processor (if using). Add the crème fraîche, horseradish sauce (if using), dill, and lime zest and juice. Process to a smooth paste. Or, for a chunkier pâté, combine all the ingredients in a large bowl, mashing with a fork.

Step 2 of 3

Season to taste with pepper and transfer to a serving dish. Cover and chill until ready to serve.

Step 3 of 3

Serve with hot, buttered wholemeal toast.
