Description
Created with the famous Woolworths chocolate mud cake, these chocolate pine cones make impressive, delicious and affordable Christmas gifts.
Instruction tip
Storing tip:As the cereal softens easily, these are best made on the day or up to 1 day ahead. They are quite sturdy if handled with care, so could be placed into food-safe clear cellophane bags and sealed with a ribbon at the top, or a cupcake box would also be suitable. If you want to use them as place settings for a Christmas lunch or dinner, simply store in an airtight container prior to the event.
Method
Step 1 of 3
Break cake, including icing, into coarse pieces into a large bowl. Add spread. Using clean hands, mix the spread through the cake mixture until well combined and the cake mixture is smooth.
Step 2 of 3
Divide mixture evenly into 12 balls. Shape each ball into a 6cm-tall cone. Working with 1 cone at a time, insert cereal pieces in a row around the base. Position the next row in the alternate gaps above and continue in rows until you reach the top. Repeat with remaining cones and cereal.
Step 3 of 3
Dust pine cones with icing sugar. Serve.
