12 Ingredients

For the Viennese whirl
  • 100grams unsalted butter, keep some for lining the baking tin
  • 25grams icing sugar
  • 2teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 100grams flour
  • 1teaspoons cornflour
  • 1/2teaspoons baking powder
For the base
  • 60grams shortcrust pastry, rolled and cut into rounds.
For the mince mix
  • 2tablespoons kirsch
  • 1teaspoons mixed spice
  • 1tablespoons orange zest
  • 10 pecans, crushed
  • 100grams mince meat

Description

These savoury desserts have a crunchy and sweet topping.

Method

Step 1 of 8

Pre-heat the oven to 160°C/140°C fan-forced. Combine all of your mince mix ingredients in a bowl and set to one side.

Step 2 of 8

In a mixing bowl, combine the butter and icing sugar until fluffy.

Step 3 of 8

Now add the vanilla and then incremently sift the flour, cornflour and baking powder while folding together.

Step 4 of 8

Place the mixture into a piping bag with a star shape nozzle. Prepare a cupcake baking tin but lightly buttering the edges.

Step 5 of 8

Press the shortcrust pastry round into the moulds so that it covers thee base and the edges.

Step 6 of 8

Now take the mince mix and stuff into the moulds then place in the oven for 20 minutes.

Step 7 of 8

After 8 minutes, now pipe the vienesse whirl mix in a decorative fashion on top of each pie and continue to bake for a further 12 minutes until the whirl begins to lightly brown.

Step 8 of 8

Remove from the oven and suggested serving with whipped cream.
