- 3tablespoons olive oil
- 400grams baby onions, peeled and left whole
- 3 cloves garlic, finely sliced
- 3tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper
- 5milliliter olive oil or chilli oil (to drizzle, to serve)

Method
Step 1 of 2
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Heat the oil in a deep-sided frying pan, add the onions, and cook over a low heat, stirring frequently, for 15 minutes, or until evenly brown.
Step 2 of 2
Transfer the onions to a small baking dish, packing them in tightly. Sprinkle with the garlic, and spoon over the balsamic vinegar. Season well with salt and a little black pepper and bake for 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes. Serve hot or cold with a good drizzle of olive oil or chilli oil and some fresh crusty bread and cheese.
