  • 2 cups pure icing sugar
  • 125grams unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Woolworths golden syrup
  • 1 free range egg
  • 2 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1/2teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2teaspoons ground allspice
  • 1/4teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 pinch ground white pepper
  • 1/4teaspoons bicarbonate of soda

Description

Perfectly flavoured with warming spices, these small gingerbread-like German cookies make a scrumptious treat for festive occasions or thoughtful gift for loved ones.

We recommend always wrapping biscuits in clear cellophane or packing them in an airtight container before gifting.

Method

Step 1 of 5

Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Line 2 large baking trays with baking paper. Using an electric stand mixer, beat butter, dark brown sugar and golden syrup until fluffy. Add egg and beat until combined.

Step 2 of 5

Sift flour, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, white pepper and bicarbonate of soda over butter mixture. Beat on low speed until combined.

Using 1 tbs mixture at a time, roll mixture into balls. Place on prepared trays about 4cm apart. Slightly flatten with the palm of your hand. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden and firm to touch. Cool completely on trays.

To make the glaze, sift pure icing sugar into a small bowl. Add 1 1/2 tbs boiling water and stir until smooth.

Dip the top of each cookie, working with one at a time, into the glaze to coat. Allow excess glaze to drain. Place on a wire rack set over a baking tray. Stand for 1 hour or until set. Serve.
