Description

Dabeli is an Indian spiced potato sandwich, delicious served with sweet tamarind and pomegranate seeds.
Instruction tip
Serve your dabeli with a selection of chutneys and Indian sev (chickpea vermicelli) sprinkled on top, if you can get it.

Method

Step 1 of 3

Place the potatoes in a large pan of boiling water and cook for 12-15 minutes, until very soft, and drain well. Tip back into the pan and mash well.

Step 2 of 3

Heat the oil in a large pan on medium high heat and add the mashed potatoes, cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, garam masala, chilli powder, green chillis and tamarind paste. Mix well to coat the potato with the spices and cook for 2-3 minutes. Stir in chopped coriander and remove from the heat.

Step 3 of 3

Toast the buns to your liking. Fill each bun with potato mix, chopped tomatoes, onions, pomegranate seeds and fresh coriander.
