  • 1kilograms granny smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped into wedges
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar
  • 1 small orange, finely grated zest and juice
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2teaspoons baking powder
  • 125grams butter, melted

A winter wonder, made simpler by cooking in the slow cooker.

Method

Step 1 of 3

Place apples in the bowl of a slow cooker. Sprinkle over sugar, orange zest and juice and 1 tbs of the flour. Stir to combine. 
Instruction tip

The quantity of crumble required will depend on the size of your slow cooker. This recipe is for a 5.5 litre capacity slow cooker.

Step 2 of 3

Combine remaining flour, oats, brown sugar and baking powder. Stir to combine. Add melted butter and mix well. Scatter evenly over apples. 
Instruction tip

For an added indulgence add ½ cup chopped pecans, macadamias or almonds to the crumble mixture before adding the butter.

Step 3 of 3

Set the slow cooker to high and cook for 2 hours, remove the lid and cook for another 30 mins. Serve hot with ice cream or cream.
