- 250grams self-raising flour
- 1teaspoons baking powder
- 75grams butter, cold, cut into cubes
- 50grams walnuts, chopped
- 25grams caster sugar
- 50grams dates, pitted and chopped
- 1 medium egg, beaten
- 1/3 cup milk, divided
Description
Sweet and nutty date and scones make a perfect afternoon treat.
Method
Step 1 of 3
Pre-heat the oven to 150°C. Place the flour, baking powder and butter cubes in a large bowl and rub the butter into the flour using your finger tips, until you have a fine crumb consistency.
Step 2 of 3
Add the walnuts, sugar and dates. Mix the egg and 75ml of milk in a jug. Make a well in the dry mix and add 3/4 of the milk, mix well with a knife to form a dough. Add more milk and egg mix gradually if necessary.
Step 3 of 3
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and roll out to 2cm thick. Cut into discs with a glass or cutter. Repeat with the trimmings. Place on a lined baking sheet, brush the scones with milk and egg mix and bake for 10-12 minutes until risen.
