- 3L Woolworths milk
- 395grams canned sweetened condensed milk
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2tablespoons instant coffee granules (add more or less to your taste)
- 1teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 pinch grated nutmeg
- 1 cup Grappa (see Tip)ingredient tipTipCola de Mono is traditionally made with Aguardiente, but this version uses Grappa. You can also use white rum, vodka or brandy.
Description
A refreshing Chilean Christmas drink with grappa, coffee and festive spices. Enjoy cola de Mono served with Christmas cake or poured over ice-cream.
Method
Step 1 of 4
Place milk in a large saucepan over low heat and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
Step 2 of 4
Meanwhile, place condensed milk, sugar, cloves, cinnamon, coffee and cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Simmer, uncovered and stirring, for 2 minutes or until sugar and coffee have dissolved. Remove pan from heat. Stir in vanilla and nutmeg.

Strain coffee mixture into milk, discarding solids. Remove pan from heat. Set aside to cool for 1 hour. Add Grappa and stir to combine.

To store, pour mixture through a funnel into sterilised bottles and refrigerate until ready to serve.
