Description

Add this basic butter cake to your baking repertoire. Dust it with icing sugar or top it with a dreamy vanilla frosting; this moist cake is a classic for birthdays, celebrations or just because.

Method

Step 1 of 3

Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease and line base of a 20cm cake tin. Beat butter and sugar together until light and creamy.

Step 2 of 3

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well between each. Add vanilla. Fold in half the flour, then half the milk. Repeat with the remaining flour and milk and be careful not to over-mix.

Step 3 of 3

Transfer batter to pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes until cake is well risen and golden. Dust with icing sugar.
