- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
- 2 onions, chopped separately
- 800grams canned diced tomatoes
- 1teaspoons mixed herbs
- 500grams spaghetti
- 1/2 cup parmesan, shaved (to serve)
- 600grams premium beef mince
- 2tablespoons olive oil (save 1 tbs olice oil for sauce)
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs

Method
Step 1 of 3
Meatballs: Combine all ingredients, except oil, in a bowl and season well with salt and pepper. Mix together well using clean hands and roll into walnut-sized balls. Heat oil in a frying pan and cook meatballs over a medium-high heat, turning often until golden brown. Remove from pan and drain on paper towel. Wipe out pan with paper towel and return to heat.

Sauce: Add extra oil to pan and fry onion and garlic over medium heat until soft. Add canned tomatoes, sugar and basil, and cook for 5 minutes. Return meatballs to sauce and simmer for 10 minutes while pasta is cooking.
Step 3 of 3
Pasta: Cook spaghetti in plenty of boiling, salted water until tender. Drain and divide between serving plates. Spoon meatballs and sauce over spaghetti and top with Parmesan, if desired.
