Method
Step 1 of 2
Beat butter, sugar and vanilla together in a bowl until pale and creamy. Sift flours together and stir into the butter mixture with milk. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly until smooth. Wrap in plastic and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
Step 2 of 2
Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Roll out the dough to 4mm thick. Use the template to cut out biscuits and transfer to tray. Sprinkle with sugar. Use a skewer to dot edges. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until pale golden. Cool. Note: Stir the butter and sugar until they are light and fluffy. The butter is "creamed" when it has almost doubled in mass and it has lightened to a yellowish-white colour.
