  • 500grams Woolworths BBQ classic beef burgers, crumbled
  • 1 brown onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1tablespoons thyme leaves, chopped (plus extra sprigs to serve)
  • 1/2 cup salt-reduced beef stock
  • 1tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup no-added-salt tomato paste
  • 400grams diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 475grams Woolworths classic mash
  • 2/3 cup shredded tasty cheese

Description

Use up extra burger patties with this cottage pie recipe. Perfect for chilly nights in, this cheat's cottage pie is a mouth-watering option for dinner.

Method

Step 1 of 4

Heat oil in a large saucepan over high heat. Cook patties, onion and garlic, stirring, for 5 minutes or until browned.

Step 2 of 4

Add carrot, celery, thyme, stock, sauce, paste and tomatoes, then bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add peas and cook for 5 minutes or until tender.

Step 3 of 4

Meanwhile, heat mash according to packet instructions.

Step 4 of 4

Preheat oven grill on medium-high heat. Spoon pattie mixture into a 5-cup capacity ovenproof dish. Spread mash over pattie mixture and sprinkle over cheese. Grill for 5 minutes or until cheese is golden. Serve sprinkled with extra thyme.
