  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled, minced
  • 1 medium red apple, peeled, core removed, diced small
  • 50milliliter apple cider vinegar
  • 1teaspoons brown sugar
  • 8 slices sourdough
  • 8 slices ham, thinly sliced, cut in half
  • 8 medium figs, stems removed, cut into quarters
  • 2tablespoons watercress, leaves

Description

Quick and simple homemade apple chutney works perfectly with salty ham and fresh figs in this easy bruschetta recipe.

Method

Step 1 of 4

Set a pot to medium heat on the stovetop adding in 1 tsp of oil to warm for 1 minute. Stir in the onions to sweat for 3 minutes before mixing in the garlic for 30 seconds.

Step 2 of 4

Add the diced red apple, apple cider vinegar and brown sugar to the pot, reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes until the sauce has thickened and reduced. Set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3 of 4

Toast the sourdough slices in a toaster or on a tray in the oven set to 200°C. Arrange the toasted bread onto a cutting board drizzling the bread with the remainder of the olive oil. Spread 1 tbs of apple chutney onto each slice of sourdough arranging the sliced ham, figs and watercress to finish.
