  • 3 1/2 cup bread flour
  • 1 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1 egg
  • 1tablespoons sugar
  • 60grams butter, melted
  • 1 yeast sachet
  • 1 cup flour (extra to knead)
  • 1teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg (extra to glaze)
  • 2tablespoons sesame seeds

Soft and fluffy burger buns made with a stand mixer

Method

Step 1 of 7

Add the warm milk, yeast sachet, sugar and melted butter into the bowl of your stand mixer and allow to sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 2 of 7

Add in the 3.5 cups of flour and salt with the wet ingredients, and start to knead with the dough hook slowly until the flour has combined. Once it has combined, you can increase the speed and mix until the dough is really soft and slightly sticky (add more flour if it is too wet)

Place into a bowl that has been oiled and cover with a tea towel in a warm area until doubled in size. (About an hour)

Step 4 of 7

Once the dough has doubled, punch it down and form into balls I usually make about 8 but you can make more or less depending on the size bun you want. Put the balls on a tray and lightly flatten then so that they are a rounded disk shape and cover with glad wrap, then let the dough rise again, the balls will double in size.

Once the buns have risen, gently brush them with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake in a pre-heated oven for about 30 minutes, at 190 degrees celcius until brown.

Step 7 of 7

Once the buns are cooked, take them out and wrap them up in a tea towel or two, this step is important as the steam is what makes them really soft.
