Description

I used my gnocchi and parmesan samples for this delicious recipe.
Instruction tip
I made my breadcrumbs from two breadrolls I had left over. Cheese sauce can be made in saucepan. Use whatever mushrooms you prefer.

Method

Step 1 of 4

Preheat oven to 180°C. Cook the gnocchi as per packet instructions. Drain well and set aside.

Step 2 of 4

In a frypan or baking dish brown bacon. Add mushrooms and shallots (reserving green tops to add later). Stir until softened.

Step 3 of 4

Cheese sauce - Melt butter in large glass jug in the microwave (approx.1 minute) - I always cover with a paper towel in case of splatters. Add flour, salt, pepper and nutmeg, and stir. Cook for 1 minute on high. Stir in 2 cups of milk and mix well with whisk. Cook at 1 minute intervals until thick. If sauce is too thick, add more milk to make pouring consistency. Stir in grated cheese and grated parmesan. Mix well.

Step 4 of 4

Combine bacon and mushroom mixture, green shallot tops, basil leaves, gnocchi and cheese sauce in baking dish, and smooth top. Mix breadcrumbs, grated cheese and grated parmesan in bowl and pour on top of gnocchi. Put in oven and bake until top is brown and crunchy. Serve with a green salad or just on its own.
