Description

Irish apple tart is a beloved dessert or tea time treat with sweet shortcrust pastry and a tart apple filling, often served with custard.

Method

Step 1 of 4

Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Place the flour in a large bowl and grate the cold butter into the bowl. Rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Step 2 of 4

Add 150ml of cold water gradually, using a knife to mix it in to the flour. Form a dough ball, tip on to a floured work surface and lightly knead.

Step 3 of 4

Divide the pastry in two and roll each half out into a thin disc. Place one disc in an ovenproof baking dish, top with apple slices and sprinkle with sugar. Place the second disc on top and crimp the edges with a fork to seal, cutting off any excess pastry. Make a cut on top to allow steam to escape.

Step 4 of 4

Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.
