  • 1teaspoons dried instant yeast
  • 3 1/3 cups plain flour
  • 1tablespoons fine sea salt
  • 30grams Woolworths unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1tablespoons flaked sea salt

Description

Celebrate special moments with these easy-to-make soft pretzels. These golden brown pillows of dough are twisted to perfection and sprinkled with salt.

Method

Step 1 of 6

Preheat oven to 200°C/180°C fan-forced. Line 2 large baking trays with baking paper.

Step 2 of 6

In a small jug, mix together 300ml lukewarm water with yeast. Stand for 5 minutes until bubbly.

Step 3 of 6

Sift together flour and salt. Add flour mixture, butter and yeast mixture to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix on low speed for 8-10 minutes or until dough is smooth.

Meanwhile, combine bicarbonate of soda and 4 cups water in a medium saucepan over low heat and bring to a simmer.

Step 5 of 6

Divide dough into 10 pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a 25cm-long log. Shape each into a pretzel shape.

Step 6 of 6

Place pretzels, one at a time, into baking soda bath for 15 seconds each side. Place on prepared baking trays, leaving space in between each pretzel. Brush with egg. Sprinkle with flaked salt. Bake for 12 minutes or until dark golden brown. Serve.
