Discover our guide to a gluten-free Christmas and ensure everyone can enjoy feasting on your festive spread this year.

Gluten-free mains

Here are some tips to ensure your Christmas feasting is gluten-free:

  • Opt for gluten-free bread crumbs, or swap in rice instead of bread when stuffing your bird. See how with this Mediterranean stuffed chicken* recipe.

  • Choose cornflour or gluten-free flour if a recipe, such as one for gravy, calls for a little flour.

  • If your dessert requires pastry, go for gluten-free pastry. These varieties are often made with corn or rice flour. Or opt for these ready-made croissants.

  • Condiments can be tricky, so always check labels. Did you know soy sauce contains gluten? Opt for gluten-free soy sauce instead, which has a very similar taste and is typically made without wheat.

Shopping for gluten-free items

Stock up on naturally gluten-free foods such as fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, nuts, legumes, milk and gluten-free grains such as quinoa and rice. For items such as pasta, bread and pastry which usually contain gluten, look for their gluten-free varieties identified by a gluten-free label.

Remember to read labels and ingredients lists carefully, and keep an eye out for statements such as ‘may contain gluten’. Products that contain the Coeliac Australia Endorsement logo are a sure bet!
