Children - apply sunscreen liberally and evenly to dry skin at least 15-20 minutes before going out into the sun. Re-apply every 2 hours. On an average sized child it is recommended to apply at least 18mL for one full body application. This is equivalent to 1/2 a teaspoon of sunscreen to each arm, leg, front of body, back of body and the face (including ears and neck). Please note that dosage will vary depending on the size of the child. Babies - there is no evidence that sunscreen used on small areas of a baby's skin has any harmful effects. No sunscreen provides 100% protection, so babies should be well protected from the sun's harmful rays by clothing, hats and shade. You only need to use sunscreen on a very small area of the baby's exposed skin, e.g. under the chin, on the legs and feet and forearms. Sunscreen should not be used to extend the time your baby is exposed in the sun. For sun protection information, visit www.cancer.org.au/sunsmart.
