- 3 large Bramley apples, peeled, cored and roughly chopped
- 50-75grams caster sugar, depending on the tartness of the apples
- 50grams butter, cubed
- 125grams plain flour
- 125grams caster sugar

Method
Step 1 of 3
Preheat the oven to 190°C (Gas 5). Place the apples and sugar in a pan with a tiny amount of water. Simmer gently until the apples begin to break down, but do not let them get too soft. Spoon into the ovenproof freezerproof dish.
Step 2 of 3
To make the topping, place the butter and flour in a mixing bowl. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the sugar, and rub it in using the same method. Sprinkle on top of the apple mixture, then bake for 30 minutes, or until the topping is a very pale golden colour. Leave to cool completely, wrap in cling film and then foil, and freeze.
Step 3 of 3
To serve, defrost in the refrigerator overnight. Warm through in an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F/Gas 4) for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
