Biofarms Tasmania

Forth, near Devonport
A super-charge for this family owned and operated organic farm

Bio Farms

Biofarms Tasmania is a family owned and operated farm located at Forth, near Devonport, Tasmania. Three brothers, Chris, Mark and David Benson, together with their families, work on the farm and within the business, to produce a diverse range of certified organic produce including carrots, onions, potatoes, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, beetroot and pumpkin.

Biofarms Tasmania will be using the Woolworths Organic Growth Fund to purchase new machinery and equipment and upgrade their irrigation system. They will also be investing in new packaging equipment to enable better throughput and greater flexibility around the use of sustainable packaging.

Biofarms Tasmania comprises of over 300 acres of land used to produce a combination of certified organic and organics in conversion vegetables. They applied to the Woolworths Organic Growth Fund to enable them to upgrade and purchase new machinery, irrigation and packing equipment for the farm. These purchases are aimed at improving productivity and efficiency and to help facilitate an increase in production to meet supply demands as well as ensuring they can utilise more environmentally friendly materials.

“Woolworths is doing a great job of supporting organics, there is so much variety of organic food available and Woolies has a great range which means customers can shop in the one place and get all that they need,” Chris said.

Biofarms Tasmania is passionate about organic production and excited about the future and would encourage other producers to apply. “The Woolworths Organic Growth Fund has given us a supercharge. With Woolworths support, we will do what we were always going to, but now we can do it faster. This is great for us, and great for Woolworths customers as it means we can start supplying Woolworths with our quality produce and get it to market quicker and fresher” Chris concluded.
