Product Labelling

Here's help to read food labels and understand common nutritional claims.

At Woolworths, part of being "Fresh Food People" means making it easy for you to choose the right foods. To help, we've provided these quick and easy tips on reading food labels and understanding common nutritional claims.

Why do we use food labels?

In Australia, labels are compulsory on most packaged foods - with the exception of smaller or single packed items such as water. Food labels are written in accordance with guidelines set by Food Standards Australia New Zealand to ensure they're consistent from product to product, and to help you quickly and easily compare foods while you're shopping.

Food labels help you make safe and healthy product choices - by telling you exactly which ingredients a product is made from, how long it will keep, any storage requirements, and any additives or allergens it may contain.
