Method

Step 1 of 3

Place 2 cups of self-raising flour into a bowl. Add butter and rub into flour. Mix in 1 teaspoon of granulated garlic and 1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs.

Step 2 of 3

Pour in 1 cup milk (or 1/2 cup each milk and water) and mix until a dough forms. Knead in the bowl for a few minutes until smooth.

Step 3 of 3

Form the dough into a rough round and cut a cross in the top. Cook in a heavy-based pot placed into the coals of the fire for about 30 minutes until cooked through and damper sounds hollow when tapped.
